Report on the special programme for the Breakup! exhibition

The exhibition, which ran throughout last year, was held to mark the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Czech and Slovak currencies. We bade farewell to the exhibition with a special programme of events on Saturday 27 January 2024. Our guide for the day was the person best qualified for the job - the exhibition's creator Jakub Kunert, CNB chief archivist and CNB Visitor Centre Deputy Director.

The programme began with a talk on the process of separating the State Bank of Czechoslovakia, establishing the new central banks and creating the new currencies. In the second part of the event, Mr Kunert and the attendees visited the exhibition itself, where they viewed the banknotes used during the currency separation, as well as a special CZK 1,000 banknote featuring an additional print in the form of a stamp and an anniversary logo. Many of those present also took this opportunity to chat with Mr Kunert.

An accompanying creative workshop and special worksheets were organised for the youngest visitors, with prizes awarded to those who completed the worksheets successfully.

At the close of the event, Mr Kunert - and symbolically the exhibition itself - was rewarded with a big round of applause.
The event brought the Breakup! Establishment of the Czech and Slovak Currencies in 1993 exhibition to an excellent close. However, you can already look forward to a new and equally interesting exhibition that will replace it in March.

If you'd like to find out the subject of the new exhibition, don't forget to follow us on our website and on social media, where we will let you know about its opening in good time.
