Treasures from the CNB Archive
For many people, the word "archive" evokes images of long rows of boxes containing plain documents filled with various texts, numbers and information, mostly about our economic history. But the depths of the Czech National Bank Archive hold much more than that. Here you'll find personal stories – historical documents from the estates of prominent figures in Czech banking accompanied by curiosities and interesting facts that you might not expect to find in a central bank.
A new section entitled Treasures from the CNB Archive will introduce one of these unique items each month. It will not only explain its historical context, but also reveal its human dimension – who was behind it, how it ended up in the archive and why it remains valuable to us today.
What can you look forward to?
- Personal estates – letters, diaries, photographs and other items that offer insight into the lives of prominent figures associated with monetary policy.
- Curiosities and unexpected finds – such as Christmas cards from bank managers and handwritten notes from meetings that changed the economic direction of our country.
- Historical documents with a story – key texts of their time, along with explanations of their significance for our monetary history.
- Each article in this section will be accompanied by photographs, digitised materials and commentaries from our archivists. You'll find them not only in this section, but also on social media.
