At first glance, a zoo and a central bank may seem to have very little in common. In reality, however, there are many fascinating connections between the animal kingdom and the world of finance. Animal motifs appear not only in banking terminology but also on currency. One notable example is the lion, the king of beasts, which features in the Czech national coat of arms and therefore appears on Czech coins and banknotes. Moreover, the lion, together with the Light Bearer, serves as a patron of the Czech National Bank, and their sculptural group adorns the bank's headquarters in Prague.
