What happened at the Visitor Centre after dark?

Over 500 people joined us for a special four-hour themed programme. Read more and find out what we had prepared for our visitors and what the atmosphere was like at the Visitor Centre.

After our regular Saturday opening hours, darkness fell over our exhibitions and they took on an unusual spooky atmosphere. Instead of closing its doors, the Visitor Centre welcomed visitors, many of whom arrived in Halloween masks and costumes. Alongside tours of the permanent exhibitions, surrounded by an air of mystery, visitors could also take part in creative workshops. Children, in particular, enjoyed making glowing paintings, crafting spooky badges, and decorating themselves with temporary tattoos.

In a special UV laboratory, visitors had the chance to discover what glows under UV light. Did you know that besides the security features of our banknotes, this includes items like toothpaste, tonic water and honey?

Ghosts had found themselves hiding places in the exhibition rooms, and our young visitors were tasked with helping us  find them by solving puzzles and filling in activity sheets themed around our banknotes. Adults, meanwhile, had the chance to enjoy a guided tour of Oldřich Kulhánek's exhibition, which, exceptionally, included works of an intimate nature not typically on display and best viewed after dark.

In just four hours, more than 500 people experienced the special programme, with almost 900 visitors exploring the Visitor Centre over the course of the entire Saturday.

The enthusiastic feedback we received suggests that everyone enjoyed the event and appreciated the opportunity to experience our exhibitions in an unconventional setting and at a unique time.

Take a look at how this magical evening unfolded!
