Almost 1,600 people celebrate the Visitor Centre's birthday
On Saturday, 1 June, the Visitor Centre hosted a fun and educational programme for the whole family. The Centre symbolically celebrated the second year since its opening on Children's Day, offering the youngest visitors many activities prepared especially for them. Children enjoyed creative birthday activities in workshops, where they could make their own gifts, experience what it's like to be a graphic designer and assist magician Pavel Dolejška with tricks involving money and other props. Adults could explore the world of Czech banknotes during two special guided tours of the temporary exhibition Oldřich Kulhánek's World of Banknotes, which will be open at the CNB until the end of this year. The programme also featured tours of the Visitor Centre's permanent exhibitions, screenings of educational videos, balloon twisting and competitions for prizes.
During the festive day, Governor Aleš Michl announced the winner of the second round of the CNB Governor's award for contribution to the advancement of financial and economic literacy. The award went to Martin Svoboda, a teacher of vocational subjects at the Technical and Economic Secondary School in Brno. At the same time, the CNB started accepting nominations for the third round of the Governor's Award, which aims to promote authors of financial and economic literacy projects. Its winner Martin Svoboda then christened a new book by CNB Governor Aleš Michl entitled "Matematické hádanky guvernéra ČNB" (The CNB Governor's Mathematical Puzzles). The book contains 100 mathematical problems and puzzles which test financial literacy and demonstrate that mathematics is not just a boring science, but can also be educational and entertaining.
